How old is your heart? I saw a billboard a few days ago asking that question and it stuck to me. My heart is about to be 38 years old. Some people would say,”That’s old” and others would say, “it’s a pretty young heart”. However, which ever way it is, the question was great, “How old is your heart?”. Have you thought about that? However old it is, I think a more important question is “What’s the condition of your heart?”. Medically speaking, the age is important, even though we have heard of 17 year olds dying of heart attacks, or a 30 year old dying after a job due to heart failure. In medicine, the older your heart the more you need to keep it healthy. Heart failure is more likely in unhealthy hearts.
The reason that question stuck to me is because I began to thing on the spiritual condition of the heart. Scricpture says in Jeremiah17:9:

What is the spiritual condition of your heart? (Gen:6:5, Ps:44:21,Mt:9:4) How old is you heart in a spiritual aspect? How is your heart? Is your heart deceiving you. Like in medical lingo, it’s really not the age of your heart that matters, but the condition that it finds itself in. You may be young with an unhealthy or rotten heart or you may be old with a pure and holy heart. Your heart is deceitful, your heart and your mind will play tricks on you all the time. You cannot trust your heart from one minute to another. You will trust today and fear tomorrow. You will be happy until something makes you angry. This is the lack of stability that you heart can offer. “Who really knows how bad it is”, the truth is, you may not even know how bad it is. You may think your heart is fine because you and always compare ourselves to other imperfect humans that make our hearts look way better than they actually are. We deceive ourselves, we want to think our heart is ok when the truth is, we are sinners, we need a savior and we cant save ourselves.
The truth is God knows every heart. He knows your heart, he knows the very intentions of your heart. He knows you need a savior and that is the very reason why he provided a savior for you. Jesus Christ is the atonement sacrifice for your sins. He is not expecting anything from you other then your honesty and willingness to surrender. You have been deceived by the ruler of this world to think you don’t need a savior, that you are ok and as long as you are a good person you will be ok. The truth, my friend, I don’t believe that’s the end.
